The rock
The formation is the result of ordinary weathering rather than anything dramatic, and whether you see the skull depends entirely on where you stand. The surrounding hilltop gives open views across the Ambalavayal countryside, which is arguably the better reason to come.
Twenty minutes covers it.
Quiet by comparison
Because it has no ticket office, no facilities and no coach parking, it stays largely free of the crowds that fill Edakkal a few kilometres away. If you want ten minutes of silence in the middle of a busy sightseeing day, this is where to take it.
Before You Go
- No shade and no water available — carry your own.
- Late afternoon light is best for photographs.
- Easily combined with Edakkal and the Heritage Museum.
- The approach road is narrow; parking is informal.
