The reservoir
The islands are the draw. Boats run out among them, and on a still morning the water holds the reflection of the Banasura hills behind. The dam itself is more impressive for its scale and construction than as a view.
A short climb from the car park gives the best vantage over the whole spread of water.
When it is at its best
Water level governs everything here. After the monsoon, from September into January, the reservoir is full and the islands sit properly in the water. By late in the dry season the level drops and the effect is much reduced — more mudflat than archipelago.
Boating operates on the reservoir's conditions rather than a fixed calendar, so it can pause after heavy rain or when levels run low.
Before You Go
- Go in the first hours after sunrise, before the day-trip buses arrive.
- Boat operation depends on water level and weather; it is not guaranteed.
- Little shade at the viewpoint — hat and water.
- Combine with Karlad Lake, which is on the same side of the district.
