The temple and the stream
The structure is old, built in granite, with a line of pillars along its outer corridor. It remains an active place of worship rather than a monument.
The Papanasini stream runs beside it, and many visitors come specifically to perform last rites for family members there. That gives the site a quiet seriousness that is worth respecting; this is not primarily a sightseeing stop.
Getting there
It sits in the north of the district beyond Mananthavady, roughly two hours from Vythiri through forest road. Most people fold it into a day with Tholpetty or Kuruva rather than driving up for the temple alone.
The surrounding Brahmagiri foothills are the trailhead for the Pakshipathalam trek, which requires separate forest permission.
